About this event:
Even the best teachers struggle to accommodate the learning needs of all students, especially in special and inclusive education settings. Today’s classrooms include students who require extra assistance with a range of developmental, communication or behaviour support needs. However, all students benefit from consistent visuals to help them build and activate knowledge and communicate what they have learned.
In this three-hour, hands-on workshop, we will explore cutting-edge new tools and strategies to make teaching easier while increasing the learning opportunities for all students, including AAC users. These tools and strategies are designed to help you deliver grade-level lessons while effectively supporting students with higher and complex learning support needs.
First, we will demonstrate the use of brand-new educational apps from AssistiveWare, applied to lessons across a range of subjects, including literacy, maths, social studies and science. You will start from the perspective of the student, exploring how these apps support all students to participate and demonstrate knowledge. Next, you will work in pairs or small groups, from the perspective of the educator, to plan lessons and formative assessment across a range of formats, from teacher-led group instruction to independent student work.
The session will include hands-on work on (provided) iPads using AssistiveWare products. There will be one iPad per two participants.
Full disclosure - this presentation is by two representatives from AssistiveWare, which is the company behind Proloquo, Proloquo2Go, Pictello, and other assistive technology options to support communication. The session will focus on cutting-edge teaching strategies while leveraging unique features of AssistiveWare products to put these strategies into practice.
